Paper Bird is Anna Kohlweis, born in nineteen-eighty-four, who writes, records and designs her work as a one-person-band in the same four walls she lives in, surrounded by the books, movies, records and pictures that build the frame for the sound that has been emerging from her homebase in Vienna since 2005. Having released two albums that clearly show some sort of personal evolution in terms of encoding traditional songwriting, a third record, interweaved with rythms made from field recordings, intimate cryptic storytelling and multilayered vocals, will be released in autumn of 2009. It’s the geography of the brain that makes these songs, the labyrinths we build to live in, the manipulation of our bodies and minds through other bodies and minds, the bloody wars against ourselves and the roles we’re expected to play, the ghosts of the past that haunt our houses, the sound of drumsticks on a kitchen table.
The Bird likes to invite a certain intimacy to her shows, where songs are stripped down to their basic elements or sung along to samples.  
Having had words,in the form of poetry and short stories as her first form of expression long before music, the lyrics are the heart of Paper Bird’s songs.
